Animal Assisted Therapy
NDIS funded and private service
Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a therapeutic approach that intentionally integrates trained therapy animals into evidence-based interventions to support emotional regulation, engagement, skill development, and psychological well-being.
At Arose Therapy, Animal Assisted Therapy is delivered through canine-assisted interventions and is regarded as an adjunct to therapy, not a stand-alone service. Sessions are delivered by practitioners trained in Animal Assisted Therapy, with a dog intentionally incorporated into practitioner-led, goal-directed interventions to support engagement, emotional regulation, and therapeutic outcomes.
AAT can support individuals across the lifespan, including neurodivergent individuals, people with disability, and those experiencing emotional or psychological challenges, particularly where traditional therapeutic approaches may feel overwhelming or inaccessible.
01
Personalised Assessment Plan
We take time to understand your strengths, goals, sensory profile, and preferences. Animal Assisted Therapy is thoughtfully integrated into a personalised support plan, ensuring that the presence of an animal serves a clear therapeutic purpose and enhances, rather than distracts from, your outcomes.
02
Therapeutic relationship first
Consistent with Arose Therapy’s core values, the therapeutic relationship comes first. The animal is incorporated as a supportive element within a practitioner-led intervention, helping to foster safety, trust, and engagement while maintaining clear therapeutic boundaries.
03
Evidence-informed practice
Our approach is informed by behavioural therapy, Positive Behaviour Support, trauma-informed care, and attachment-based principles. Interventions may include skill building, emotional regulation strategies, graded exposure, or social learning, with the animal supporting therapeutic engagement and motivation.
04
Enhanced quality of life
The ultimate goal of Animal Assisted Therapy is to support meaningful participation, independence, and emotional well-being. We focus on translating skills developed within sessions into everyday environments, supporting sustainable and long-term positive change.
