Values
At Arose Therapy, we are passionate about helping individuals navigate through their challenges and supporting them in their journey towards personal growth and wellbeing. Here are the core values and approaches that define our therapeutic practice:
The Therapeutic Relationship Comes First
We believe meaningful and lasting change is built through authentic therapeutic relationships. Trust, empathy, and collaboration are central to our work, and strong rapport forms the foundation of all effective interventions.
Person-Centred and Collaborative Practice
We respect each person’s individuality, autonomy, and readiness for change. Our approach is collaborative and responsive, honouring personal values, goals, and lived experience. We support people to have an active voice in their therapeutic journey and decision-making.
Evidence-Based and Reflective Practice
Our work is informed by evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT). We integrate these frameworks thoughtfully, applying them in ways that are practical, relevant, and tailored to individual needs.
Ethical Practice and Professional Integrity
We are committed to ethical, transparent, and responsible practice. This includes thoughtful decision-making, clear communication, and ethical management of NDIS funding to support sustainability, accountability, and long-term outcomes.
A Holistic View of Wellbeing
We recognise that behaviour, emotions, relationships, and environments are interconnected. Our work considers the broader context of each person’s life, including family systems, supports, and environmental factors.
Growth Mindset and Continuous Learning
We embrace reflection and ongoing professional development as essential to high-quality practice. We view challenges, feedback, and outcomes as opportunities for learning and growth, both for ourselves and those we support.
Transparency and Accountability
We value openness and shared responsibility. By communicating clearly and acting with accountability, we aim to foster trust and respectful partnerships with clients, families, and stakeholders.
Modalities
Our Therapeutic Approaches
Here are the key modalities we integrate into our practice:
Person-Centred Therapy: Also known as client-centred therapy, this is a humanistic approach to counselling and psychotherapy developed by Carl Rogers. It is based on the belief that individuals have an innate capacity for growth, self-actualisation, and the ability to make positive changes in their lives. Person-centred therapy places a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for clients.
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA): ABA is an evidence-based approach that focuses on understanding and improving socially significant behaviours. It uses systematic teaching methods to develop communication, social skills, daily living skills, and reduce challenging behaviours. Through careful assessment and positive reinforcement strategies, ABA helps individuals learn new skills and enhance their quality of life.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): DBT was initially developed to treat individuals with borderline personality disorder. It combines elements of CBT with mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): ACT focuses on accepting difficult thoughts and emotions whilst committing to actions aligned with personal values. It emphasises mindfulness, acceptance, and the development of psychological flexibility.
Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT): CBT is a widely used and evidence-based therapeutic approach that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. It aims to help individuals identify and modify unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour to improve their emotional wellbeing and overall functioning.
Solution-Focused Therapy: This is a goal-directed collaborative approach that emphasises the importance of identifying solutions rather than focusing on problems. It helps clients envision their preferred future and build on their existing strengths and resources to achieve their goals. The approach is practical, brief, and focuses on what's working rather than what isn't.
