Positive Behaviour Support

NDIS funded service

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is primarily focused on supporting individuals with disabilities or neurodiversity and it typically addresses behaviours that are considered challenging, disruptive or interfering with the individual's quality of life or inclusion in the community.

Behaviours may include:

  • Self-injurious behaviours (e.g., head-banging, self-biting)

  • Aggressive behaviours (e.g., hitting, kicking, biting others)

  • Disruptive behaviours (e.g., yelling, tantrums, property destruction)

  • Repetitive or stereotypic behaviours (e.g., rocking, hand-flapping)

  • Socially inappropriate behaviours (e.g., public undressing, inappropriate sexual behaviours)

  • Non-compliance or avoidance behaviours

PBS aims to understand the function or purpose of these behaviours and provide support through teaching alternative skills, modifying the environment, and promoting positive behaviours that serve the same function in a more appropriate manner.
